Moving House

If there is anything that has dominated my thoughts for the majority of the year (other than Coronavirus of course!) it has been the task of attempting (and finally succeeding) to move house. We managed to secure an offer on our house and put an offer on another literally a couple of days before the first lockdown was announced. Followed by a lot of waiting while our buyers proceeded cautiously, clearly not wanting to commit too much of their money at this stage to searches etc. After a couple of months the housing market had the all clear and we looked set to make our goal of moving before the summer holidays were out, a reality. However our buyers decided it was not to be and found a different house they preferred, so back onto the market we went (I won't pretend I wasn't absolutely gutted at this point!)

We ended up having a lot of interest and secured a new buyer in about five days thankfully. At this point I still believed we could make the move happen before September- it was only the start of June, but again life/banks/coronavirus had other plans. Banks were suddenly overwhelmed with mortgage applications and our buyers had of course chosen the Bank who was struggling the most! It wasn't until about mid September that they finally had the all clear for their mortgage (again- A LOT of weeks to wait around unsure of our house fate, I did not take this lightly!) Mid- October was finally our moving date, one week before the children would break up for half term!

The Moving Day itself was intense, we foolishly moved ourselves- but I need to record this here and say never again. Our van was simply not big enough and we had to make two trips which thankfully, (due to our buyers being away and not arriving at our property till 3:30), we were able to do, but oh it was stressful!

We took the girls to Mum and Dad's the night before and they sobbed all the way in the car- it was devastating. It was a relief to show them round the new house and see some excitement for what might be and I'm so glad we captured it!

Moving house is such a big event and although it didn't always feel natural to have the camera out for certain parts of it, I am glad that I was able to capture the 'moving' experience in some small way. Hopefully it'll help me remember the nice parts and disguise those more stressful memories (however they will stay here as a reminder incase I ever get the notion that moving again would be a good idea...)
